I am sick and tired of people actually asking me what the hell Black Lotus is. As if I don't have enough
to do! :P nah just kiddin', but a lot of people have a lot of different - or nonexistent - ideas about lotus.
Firstly, contrary to popular belief, it is NOT the fruit Odysseus' men ate on a random
island... that's a mistranslation by medaeval scribes. That lotus was actually the fruit of the Lote tree - which they didn't
get in northern Europe so fair enough on the mistake.
The lotus is a bushy shrub or a type of lily <they're both different but look the same and until recently
had exactly the same name!> that opens and closes its flowers every day. What a f*****g waste of time! It would lose nothing
by leaving its flowers open! G'dammit! Oh yeah, 's also a very effeminate shade of pink.
Loads of myths - quite a few from ancient Egypt - say that falling petals from the lotus flower turn into
gods/demigods/people or that the flower opens up one morning and KA-POW! there's a new deity in town.
Black Lotus is a tainted plant that creates things more fun than deities, and is stuck on
the verge of darkness. It is said that to imbibe or consume a Black Lotus can either damage you mentally or consume your
soul...
The Music...
Another common question is "what kind of music do you play?". This normally leads to much hesitation and mind searching,
before we reply with "I dunno...". This stems from the composition of the band; Dan wants to write punk, Elliot wants to write
more riff orientated stuff (Synchronised, Superiority Complex etc) type stuff, Sparky wants to write metal, Parry likes
more pop punky stuff like Greenday, while Steve is probably the most open minded member as long as he can do whatever he wants
with the drums. And he gets very touchy if we tell him what to play, normally cos its shit. And so we play a weird concoction
of just about every genre under the Sun.....
